Summerville man charged with third DUI following police pursuit

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC)-Police say a 34-year-old Summerville man was charged with his third DUI in three months after leading police on a car and foot chase in West Ashley early Sunday morning.

The Charleston Police Department charged Charles Coleman Driggers with narcotics violation, possession of cocaine, driving under the influence and a habitual offender charge. Driggers was convicted in November of last year and on Jan. 7 for DUI.

Around 2:12 a.m. on Sunday, authorities say they spotted Driggers on Glenn McConnel Parkway speeding in a red truck.

According to a police report, when officers initiated a traffic stop, the truck did not stop but slowed down and was swerving from lane to lane. Officers say as the truck approached an over pass, Driggers opened the door to the truck and rolled out.

Police say Driggers then jumped back onto his feet, ran, then jumped over a railing and slid down an embankment into the woods.

Summerville man wanted for fatal shooting

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC)-Orangeburg County sheriff's deputies are looking for a 32-year-old Summerville man accused of fatally shooting another man Thursday night.

Deputies responded to a shooting incident on Peach Shed Road in Vance at 10:46 p.m. Thursday. When deputies arrived, they found a 50-year-old victim lying on his stomach suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators believe the victim and 32-year-old Demetrice Dwight Perry were arguing and then Perry fired a handgun at the victim's abdomen and fled the scene.

"We will investigate and search for anyone in and out of this county for crimes committed here against our citizens," said Major Rene Williams. "Too often we find where individuals come into our county, commit a crime, and then flee, expecting to escape prosecution. And if you are helping someone hide, after they have committed a crime here, we are coming after you too.
