Police say device in Summerville bank robbery not a bomb

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police Monday said the device a bank robbery suspect told employees was a bomb was not.

According to officials, the BB&T at Main and 8th streets was robbed around noon Monday. The suspect, they said, entered the bank and told employees he had a bomb.

Police cleared the scene and declared the device safe about 3:45 p.m. Monday after isolating the area surrounding the bank for three hours.

The State Law Enforcement Division and the bomb squad were called in to investigate due to the threat of an explosive device.

Police identified the suspect as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s. Officials said he was approximately 5'7" tall. He fled the scene of the robbery on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured during the robbery.

The robbery marks the 12th in the Charleston metro area since June 7.

Summerville men charged with car break-ins

Charleston County sheriff's deputies arrested two men in connection to a string of vehicle break-ins.

Jonathan Wireman-Ridge, 27, and Adam Lee Howard, 28, both of Summerville are charged with seven counts of breaking into a motor vehicle.

Charleston County sheriff's deputies responded to the Buckshire Subdivision on Monday in reference to seven vehicle break-ins. While conducting their investigation deputies observed a suspicious vehicle in the subdivision and conducted a traffic stop. As the deputies approached the vehicle they observed one of the passengers attempting to hide something between the seats of the vehicle.

The items, credit cards and gift cards, were recovered and connected to the previously-reported vehicle break-ins. Howard and Wireman-Ridge will have a bond hearing Thursday. The investigation is ongoing.

Police arrest Summerville High teacher for sexting nude photos to student

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a Summerville High School teacher who is accused of texting nude pictures of herself to one of her students.

The teacher, Sarah Banner, 25, was arrested Friday and was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Officers say the 16-year-old student's parents found the pictures on his cell phone after they took it away from him.

"We have the 16 year old's cell phone and have done a search on it, and have recovered numerous nude photos of the teacher," said Summerville Police Capt. Jon Rogers.

Family dodges bullets inside Summerville home

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A Summerville family was so terrified they left their home Thursday night after it became a shooting target.

It happened at around 7:30 p.m., a police report said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a black Cadillac pull in front of the Abby Lane apartment.

The man of Mexican descent who lives inside with his with wife, brother and 18-month old daughter did not want to be identified because he feared repercussion.

He said they were all sitting on the living room sofa, anticipating one of their favorite TV shows.

"That's when I heard the first shot," said the 24-year old man in Spanish.

Most Wanted: Chaz Brown and William Evans

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -Summerville Police are looking for two men accused of looking the other way while a man was stabbed inside a car.

Chaz Brown, 23 and William Evans, 25 are wanted on charges of accessory after the fact in connection with last December's attack.

"The victim in this case had cashed a check and they had come over to another area of town and ended up getting robbed at knife point, stabbed, his watch stolen, his cash stolen," said Summerville Police Capt. Jon Rogers.

Police say the victim managed to get away. "They just stopped the attack and he managed to break free and get away," said Rogers.

Dorchester County road blocks

With the Memorial Day holiday weekend approaching, the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office will have several DUI checkpoints set up around the county over the weekend.  Deputies will begin setting the checkpoints up on Thursday, May 27th in an effort to reduce drinking and driving.

Police: suspects used cloned credit cards to buy merchandise

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Police are searching for two men who used cloned credit cards to buy merchandise at stores.

Investigators believe the suspects got the card numbers by using a skimming machine which reads the card's numbers. Detectives say the suspects then made duplicate credit cards.

The cloned cards were used March 22 and 23 at Walmart's in Goose Creek and Summerville. They also were used at a Publix store in Goose Creek and a Bi-Lo in Moncks Corner.

Police say the suspects bought gift cards and then used those cards to get merchandise.
