SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC)- A Summerville woman is $1 million richer after submitting a losing lottery ticket to a second-chance promotion.

Lottery officials say Jennifer Elrod, a stay-at-home mom, took home the big payday after submitting a non-winning Diamond Millionaire $10 Anniversary scratch-off card for the Diamond Millionaire Second-Chance Promotion.

The losing $10 ticket was selected from more than 1 million entries to win the grand prize.

"I cried when I found out," Elrod said.

She will take home $680,000 after taxes from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

Elrod says the most she had previously won playing the lottery was $500 on a $2 scratch-off. She says she called her husband, Mike, immediately after finding out she won the $1 million grand prize.

"I'd never heard her voice sound like that," he said.

The Elrods already have big plans for the winnings. They say their Christmas wish list now includes a trip to Germany to visit family. They also plan to pay off their house and put their kids in daycare so Jennifer can return to work.
